Rust publishes no stats on door codes, so raiders use studies of leaked four digit PINs. In one study of about 3.4 million PINs, 1234 alone made up roughly 10.7 percent. The twenty most common codes covered about 26.8 percent.
Eight wrong tries lock the raider out for 15 minutes, so about 32 guesses an hour. The twenty likeliest codes take around 45 minutes by hand. Trying all 10000 would take around 13 days. Each wrong code also shocks the person, for about 5 damage by community numbers.
PATTERN RAIDERS TRY FIRST EXAMPLES
Same digits 1111, 7777
Repeated pairs 1212, 6969
Years and dates 1999, 2004
Keypad shapes Straight lines, corners
Sequences 1234, 4321, 2468
To stay safe, pick four digits at random, avoid any pattern and any birth year, and change the code after every wipe or when a teammate leaves. A good code only slows a raider, so layer your doors.
