Start with a farm block: 4 large planters in a square. Grow by whole blocks.

Put 3 sprinklers in the middle of each block, where planters meet.

Build beside a freshwater river if you can and leave a foundation open to reach it. With no river, use 2 barrels and 2 purifiers over campfires to turn salt into fresh.

Four planters let you keep 4 gene lines and run 2 crossbreeds at once.

To refine genes: keep at least 4 strains, put two in a checkerboard of planters, clone only the best plants, repeat for a few rounds, then fill the farm with the best seeds.

Potato has the best stats of the common crops and gives 125 calories. Corn is good for stocking a fridge.

One wind turbine can run all the lights and pumps for a small farm.
